To be clear; this 89 Tonnes CO2 budget is a:
Total,
for all time,
for all people yet to come.
Not a yearly one.
When it is used up - that's it folks.
When it's gone we'll have to be emitting, overall a big fat ZERO CO2.
For some idea of what this means, the average British person emits about:
10 tonnes CO2 per year. So, since January 2016 the average Brit has already used up about 35 tonnes CO2 from 89, leaving 54 tonnes left. Not long to descend gracefully to zero! |
